Community Business Weekend is a great chance to find out what’s happening in your local area!

Over 290 (and counting) community businesses are already registered for Community Business Weekend on the 4th – 7th May bank holiday. So far, nearly 100 events are listed on the map, from market stalls to live storytelling and fashion shows to gardening workshops. There’s plenty of exciting activities for all the family to take part in around local areas across England, and to find out more about how you can support and get involved with your community. As well as explaining how they run, community businesses are celebrating the difference they are making by hosting a range of fun events.

In the North of England, Sow the City, a specialist food growing company will be opening The Boiler House, a new hub for food growing and a creative makers space. Stretford Public Hall, a multi-purpose community venue are hosting a concert for kids including interactive games alongside opening their community café. And there will be other events like afternoon tea, market stalls and a new shop launch from Give2Gain, Friends of Hopwood Park, in Liverpool Squash Nutrition, Bee Wirral, and The Rotunda Community College.

Surrounding the Midlands area, a user-led charity for disabled and vulnerable people Ideal for All are organising gardening activities and sharing information about how to get involved. Gatis Community Space is a multi-purpose community venue in Wolverhampton that will be running a range of creative activities on the 19th May and Lott Bazar, a community arts and crafts shop will be running a two-day open day with workshops and refreshments.

A good mix of events are happening in London, like a picnic in Brixton park hosted by Brixton Green, a community redevelopment group. Stepney City Farm are organising a festival of music, dancing, crafts, food and sheep shearing! Other exciting events will be taking place in London from Kensal Community Library, The Ubele Initiative, The Ivy House such as: book readings, partnership consultations, music and food.

In the South of England, Stoneham Bakehouse, a community supported baker in Hove, will be celebrating a year since their opening and offering volunteering opportunities. Defiant Sports will be having a party with games, sports and refreshments throughout the day. The Bevy , The Big LemonCuckmere buses, and other community businesses are putting on a varied selection of events from volunteer driving opportunities to a culture clash battle!
